Coming out of WP2 I had a
lot of trouble feeling like what I had written was adequate enough. For some reason
I felt like I had to answer every single question that was presented in the
prompt and because of that I spent a lot of time talking briefly about a lot of
things instead of talking more in depth about fewer of them. I kind of liked
how we were told to choose a non-academic piece of writing to compare/contrast
with our scholarly articles because I think it really helped me find some of
the important conventions in a scholarly article. I think that because I knew
my third article was a ‘non-scholarly’ article I formed a bias against it and
didn’t do as good of a job identifying conventions in the piece just because I had
already formed this opinion of it in my mind. I also find a lot of the
activities we do leading up to us turning in our papers (things like turning
our paper into a poem, the highlighter activity we did during WP1) are super
helpful but I sometimes wish we practiced using them earlier on because usually
we are learning these techniques right before we have to turn in our papers.
Our online class on Wednesday was a little stressful for me because I felt like
I was never at the right place at the right time and also because that’s when
we got our introduction to WP3. I’m still slightly confused about what exactly
we’re supposed to be doing for WP3. I have a hard time focusing on one idea at
a time so I feel like I might have difficulty coming up with a plan for WP3
since we’re supposed to be transforming a piece of writing for different
audiences.
