Thlog#5

I found it really helpful to go over what the uses of italics are. I hadn’t realized until we were asked to identify uses of italics that I was only able to identify the fact that they were used for foreign words and sometimes to add emphasis on a word. When we first started talking about moves that authors would make in their writing I was a little nervous about not being able to identify the necessary ‘moves’ in writing, they were relatively easy to identify when we were analyzing the different video clips about athletes moves. However, I found myself a little unsure about how/if I would be able to properly identify them in writing.  I found the exercise we did in class about how different fields would look at the idea of romantic relationships also really helped put into perspective what ‘moves’ meant from a more literary perspective since we were forced to identify how several different disciplines would approach the same subject. Getting a clearer idea of what we should be looking for as far as ‘moves’ in writing has made it somewhat easier for me to envision how that would then relate to genre. That being said, I’m still really nervous about how/what I am going to do for WP2.
